Reviews
Great bakery just beside Empress market. Bread and pastry are freshly made. The croissants are very good, try the plain one ($3) or the almond croissant ($5.30)
I dropped by at 3pm on a Sunday and there were still a few bakes left. I got the Original Basque Burnt Cheesecake ($9), and this was so creamy, and the portion was large enough to justify the price. I also got the Almond Croissant ($5.30) which was a little buttery and I liked the moist filling. Looking for something more savoury, I got the ham scone ($3) which had a cheese layer on the top. The taste of ham in the scone is quite strong, and I enjoyed it. Do note that the items are kept in paper bags. However, if you want a plastic bag for everything, it will cost you 10 cents.
The croissant is a must try. I bought one and bite into it, the outer texture is slightly crispy and flaky, the interior is airy with evenly distributed honeycomb. Can I say this is near a perfect croissant and not expensive. I also tried the canele, abit skeptical at first because I haven’t had good canele outside of France but this is a pleasant surprise again. The casing is glacéd crunch and the interior is moist, is pretty decent. Overall, the prices here are not expensive and there are many other French pastries, there’s seats and table outside the shop too. Will come back for sure.
You can find various delicious bread here with reasonable price. You can take away only.
So happy to find this bakery in the Empress Market. Freshly baked so many variety of breads, croissants, danishes, etc. Both sweet and savory choices. The loaves of breads are wonderful - regular baguette or one with nuts, seeds, sundried tomato, etc.
Seems to be very busy most mornings. Holiday season brings freshly made panettone and stollen. It's blessing to have a high quality bakery nearby.
For someone who would usually go for a sweet rather than savoury pastry, the triple cheese and ham croissant is really good. The croissant even when not heated up retains lots of buttery flavour. The cheese and ham are combined with a creamy sauce (what seems like bechamel) for just enough ooze. Just be prepared to queue for a while during peak hours as the place is small.

Paid S$30 for a few pastries - quite amazed that the rum bread was the cheapest item, couldn't taste any alcohol at all. The Taro croissant is 7.80 and for the price I expected better.
Decent bakes though.
The whole place is so rustic, filled with music, trays of bakes and Knick knacks. Service crew was also very friendly. I went on a late Saturday evening close to their closing time at 5pm, there was still some bakes left. The maple pecan tart caught my eye.
My taste buds reacted faster than my head, at SGD12 for a tiny tart (about half my fist), I did find it rather expensive. But it was every bit delicious, just felt the price didn’t justify the size. Also bought the Palmier which was crispy, buttery and delicious. Their bakes are generally quite pricey although they are indeed tasty.
Glad I could use my CDC vouchers!
